The Dangers Posed by Black Hair Products | The Afro-American Newspapers | Your Community. Your History. Your News.

Black women with finely primped hair may be jeopardizing their health, according to a recent report by NBC’s TheGrio.com.

Some environmental justice advocates and scientists say the unnatural chemicals found in many hair care products, especially those on the Black hair care market such as relaxers, hair grease and oil sheen, can cause cancer, infertility or early puberty.

The Dangers of Hair Straighteners

Who saw the Dr. Oz show where he talked about the dangers of hair straighteners!? We did! !( we are totally obsessed with Dr. Oz!)We were so happy that he did this topic because a lot of people would see it and think twice (hopefully) about what they put in their hair

Talking about the Brazilian Blowout

Hair relaxers

He gave a lot of info on hair relaxers and that you should be careful with them. A lot of the products say that they contain organic ingredients, which Dr. Oz says is not true. Its about time the went national!

YARN BRAIDS!!

Last weekend my brother got married (WOOOT!) so my sister and I decided to do something different with our hair. We were getting pretty frustrated from being in our hair  all the time that we wanted to get it braided, but we just didnt find the right time until the wedding (perfect excuse!)  we opted for yarn braids following MsVcharles challenge to stay braided until March 2011. We are a bit behind on the challenge regarding time but this is my first set.

Here are some pics of the hair and wedding!

hmmm....

The wedding was F.U.N but the HAIR wasn't. First, it is way too tight, Tight enough that my hair is literally being torn out  by the hairline...... *sigh* and it itches, well my scalp does. I just can't WAIT to get them out, I don't think I'll last three weeks with these braids.... I'll keep you all updated!
